?Chapter 46: Chapter 46 I’m Not Quite Ready to Get Pregnant Chapter 46: Chapter 46 I’m Not Quite Ready to Get Pregnant Lu Jingyan: “?”
After saying those two words, Sheng Xian turned around and walked toward the car.
Lu Jingyan was stunned for three seconds, then jogged to catch up, “Where are we going? Where did you say we were going just now?”
Sheng Xian pulled open the car door, her tone icy as she cut off Lu Jingyan’s chatter, “Get in the car.”
“What did you just say? I didn’t hear it clearly, say it again——”
Impatient, Sheng Xian motioned to close the car door.
Lu Jingyan swiftly dove into the car, buckling up the seat belt quickly, then looked up with a smile, bending her eyes at Sheng Xian, “Can you tell me now?”
With a “bang,” the door was closed mercilessly.
Lu Jingyan peered through the windshield and saw Professor Sheng walking by emotionless, couldn’t help curling her lips, “Pretentious, playing coy, a sly creature…”
The car door was pulled open, and Sheng Xian sat in the driver’s seat.
Lu Jingyan immediately stopped her muttering and, tilting her head, looked at Sheng Xian with a smile, “Brother, are you taking me home?”
Without much expression, Sheng Xian started the car and stepped on the accelerator, driving out of the community.
Lu Jingyan was used to Sheng Xian’s indifference and didn’t mind continuing her questioning, “Brother, what are you planning to do by taking me home?”
“…”
“Whatever it is, I’ll cooperate.”
“…”
“Anyway, tomorrow is Saturday. I don’t have to work.”
Suddenly, the car screeched to a halt.
Lu Jingyan lurched forward.
Once she steadied herself, she realized the car had stopped in the middle of a big road, with Sheng Xian giving her a cool look asking whether she wanted to be thrown out of the car.
Lu Jingyan backed off, “I was just joking, don’t take it to heart. Keep driving, keep driving.”
Sheng Xian looked at her for two seconds, then pressed the gas pedal again.
For the rest of the journey, Lu Jingyan didn’t speak anymore.
Sheng Xian wasn’t the type to chat aimlessly with people anyway, so it was somewhat quiet in the car.
Unconsciously they arrived near Sheng Xian’s neighborhood.
Lu Jingyan noticed the shop windows along the street were still lit up, including a 24-hour pharmacy, and without thinking she blurted out, “Are you prepared at home?”
Her words were obscure, eliciting confusion from Sheng Xian, “Hmm?”
Lu Jingyan pointed at the pharmacy outside the window, “I’m not quite ready to get pregnant.”
Sheng Xian: “…”
He felt regret for his moment of soft-heartedness, thinking that bringing her home was a mistake.
Sheng Xian, feeling a headache coming on, slammed on the gas, leaving the pharmacy she had pointed to far behind.
Actually, he also didn’t understand why he had suggested bringing her home in the first place.
That thought had scarcely crossed his mind before he had blurted it out.
He wasn’t foolish; he could clearly see that the excuses about power outages and paying electric bills were fabricated by her.
Obviously, she had something on her mind but didn’t want to tell him about it.
In this world, who doesn’t have their little secrets? He really wasn’t interested, but for some reason, her desperate attempts at concealing it irritated him.
He admitted it was his own issue; that girl wasn’t close enough to him to share everything, and moreover, he wasn’t her anybody, but he was just displeased.
Despite his irritation, the sight of her stumbling out of her house in a panic still made him uneasy.
He felt that she could keep everything to herself, but he couldn’t leave her alone there.
At least not for tonight.
…
Sheng Xian’s place offered great privacy, with one household per floor.
Exiting the elevator, Sheng Xian opened the shoe cabinet, took out a pair of slippers, and placed them in front of Lu Jingyan, then went to enter the door code.
Lu Jingyan looked at the drab men’s slippers with disgust, “Don’t you have any for women?”
“No.”
“What about pink ones?”
“No pink either.” Sheng Xian opened the door and entered, indifferent to whether she put them on or not.
Lu Jingyan pouted, slipping on the hideously ugly slippers with great reluctance, and followed Sheng Xian into the house.
The living room was spacious, with an open Western-style kitchen in the dining area.
The place wasn’t cluttered with many belongings, but each item looked expensive. It was simply decorated, and the monochrome style left no room even for a potted plant.
Lu Jingyan moved her head around, studying his living room, then continued to follow him inside.
The door of the study was open, showing a wall lined with bookshelves packed with books, and the desk was cluttered with stacks of documents and paperwork.
The guest bedroom was dark, seemingly unused for a long time.
Sheng Xian pushed open the master bedroom door, and Lu Jingyan hurried forward when she heard the noise.
Many appliances in his home were smart; the lights automatically turned on where people passed. Lu Jingyan watched him enter the wardrobe, and lights inside the closets gradually lit following his movements.
Shortly, Sheng Xian came out with a towel, tossing it into her arms, “The bathroom is over there, and there are new toothbrushes and cups in the cabinet next to the mirror.”
Lu Jingyan held the towel but didn’t move.
Sheng Xian raised an eyebrow, silently asking if she had something else to say.
“How about pajamas?” Although she had dressed casually since she had been out and about, picking up strong scents of smoke and alcohol, she couldn’t possibly sleep in those clothes.
It wasn’t until she asked that Sheng Xian remembered, and he went back into the wardrobe.
Lu Jingyan followed a few steps towards the wardrobe, “I want a dress shirt, a dress shirt, the white kind!”
Sheng Xian, initially not giving it much thought, randomly chose one from the row of dress shirts hanging in the outermost cabinet.
But upon hearing her request, images suddenly filled his mind, and the next second, he let go of the shirt, opened a drawer below, and took out a white T-shirt which he then flung over her head.
