Chapter 56 - 56 56 I Promise Not to Touch Randomly

?Chapter 56: Chapter 56 I Promise Not to Touch Randomly Chapter 56: Chapter 56 I Promise Not to Touch Randomly Lu Jingyan was stunned for a few seconds before he realized Sheng Xian knew he was downstairs at his residence.

She lifted her head and glanced up at his floor.

The lights were on, the curtains weren’t drawn, yet his figure wasn’t at the window.

As Lu Jingyan pondered how he knew she was downstairs, her phone buzzed with another message.

Sheng Xian: “Aren’t you coming up?”

Lu Jingyan didn’t know if she was tipsy from the alcohol, or if she had been numbed by the cold—as her mind was a bit sluggish, and she didn’t know how to respond to the message.

Sheng Xian: “Forget it.”

Forget it?

What did that mean?

Lu Jingyan unlocked her phone’s keyboard, intending to type a reply.

Sheng Xian sent another before she could: “I’m coming down.”

Lu Jingyan paused for a moment, then looked up again.

The lights on Sheng Xian’s floor were now off.

She opened her mouth but for some reason, felt an unexplained sourness in the pit of her stomach.

She thought his ‘forget it’ meant it was up to her whether to come up or not. She could never have anticipated the few words that followed.

Perhaps due to her parents’ influence, she felt they never took her seriously, and wondered why anyone else would really care about her.

That’s why she hated asking for help.

She had no confidence in doing so.

Even though she had known Chen Kai and Song Xian for so long, she rarely troubled them with anything.

Despite being uncertain about whether he and she could be considered friends, she still contemplated seeking Sheng Xian’s assistance.

Not even half a minute after she received Sheng Xian’s message, his figure appeared in the lobby.

He wore a ginger-colored woolen overcoat and had a scarf wrapped around his neck, presenting a very Korean aesthetic, as if he walked out of a Korean drama as the lead male actor.

He stepped through the glass doors, descended the steps, and approached her: “Let’s go.”

Lu Jingyan looked at Sheng Xian, bewildered for a moment, and asked, “Go where?”

“Don’t know,” Sheng Xian replied. “You didn’t want to come up, so let’s just walk around.”

Pausing, Sheng Xian asked, “Are you cold?”

Lu Jingyan shook her head; she was about to claim she wasn’t cold when a gust of icy wind made her shiver.

Sheng Xian pulled off the scarf around his neck, draped it over hers, and then stood in front of her, slightly bending over to wrap it tightly around her in a couple of loops.

The scarf retained his body heat, and the sleeves that touched her as he tied it carried the same scent as his bed linen and duvet covers.

Lu Jingyan’s heartbeat uncontrollably quickened.

She swallowed hard, trying to appear calm, thinking to herself why he couldn’t just hand over the scarf; why did he have to wrap it around her too.

He must have seen she wasn’t wearing much and intentionally wrapped the scarf around her.

Flooded with thoughts generated by her imagination, Lu Jingyan’s heart thumped even louder.

Lu Jingyan, stay calm.

You think this is a novel where every action of the male lead is filled with hidden meaning?

Sheng Xian, completely oblivious to the whirlwind in the schoolgirl’s mind, saw her rubbing her hands together and not speaking. He assumed her hands were cold and spoke softly, “If you’re cold, tuck your hands in your pockets.”

Still feeling somewhat dizzy, Lu Jingyan first let out an “Ah?” and after two seconds, uttered another “Ah?” before stuffing her hands into Sheng Xian’s pockets.

Sheng Xian: “…”

Lu Jingyan: “…”

Lu Jingyan noticed Sheng Xian’s expression seemed a bit off, blinked, and slowly lowered her gaze.

Seeing her hand stuffed into his pocket, her mouth opened, and she wished she could vanish on the spot from embarrassment.

What was she thinking?

When someone says to tuck your hands into your pockets because it’s cold, they mean your own pockets.

Why did she assume it meant to tuck them into someone else’s pockets?

Even if she assumed wrong, why did she follow through with the act!

Supressing the turmoil of embarrassment swelling inside her, Lu Jingyan cleared her throat, “I just borrowed a bit of warmth.”

Sheng Xian: “…”

Her tone was quite natural, as though she was just someone asking for a light for a cigarette.

“I’ve been outside for too long, my pockets are freezing. Your coat just came from indoors, it’s warm.” In an effort to seem genuine, Lu Jingyan deliberately reached deeper into his pocket, pretended to be struck by the warmth, and sighed, “So warm.”

Sheng Xian looked down at her silently.

Feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, Lu Jingyan knew she had to follow through with her act.

With a composed expression, she counted to ten and then slowly began to withdraw her hand from his pocket, adding, “Thanks.”

She had only pulled it halfway out when Sheng Xian grasped her arm through her clothes, halting her movement.

Lu Jingyan was taken aback for a moment, then raised her head and smiled at Sheng Xian with a playful arch to her eyebrows, “What’s wrong? Can’t bear to have my hand leave your pocket?”

Sheng Xian’s lips moved, he loosened his grip on her fingers slightly but did not let go.

“Brother, there’s actually a warmer place for hands,” Lu Jingyan’s gaze fell onto Sheng Xian’s chest: “Your embrace.”

“…”

“Brother, want to try?”

“…”

“I promise not to fiddle around.”

“…”

Here we go again…

With a headache, Sheng Xian closed his eyes briefly, released her arm, took her hand out of his pocket, and turned to walk towards the entrance of the complex.
