Chapter 65: 65. You Don't Like Surprises

"What are you doing?" She asked and looked up at him.

He smirked at her and using one hand he pulled open the huge doors. Mauve winced at the bright light, they weren't in the sun but the sun's glare was hot enough to make her eyes sting.

Jael didn't hesitate, he took a step forward and another step. Mauve gasped and closed her eyes.

Jael stopped walking and chuckled, "You won't see if you don't open your eyes. You're acting worse than a vampire who hasn't seen daylight in centuries."

"I am worried about you." She blurted out, still closing her eyes.

"I understand the sentiment but I am not some Paler that would dissipate under the sun. Now open them, else this will all be for not." Jael scolded.

Mauve slowly opened her eyes and immediately realized they were outside but they weren't standing directly under the sun. "Oh, you could have warned me."

There was a shade that extended a full five feet out of the castle walls. Mauve looked up to see that the shade was all the way from the top but about half the castle walls. She turned her neck as she took in the rest of her environment.

She remembered the scenery from when she had first come to the castle. Not much has changed. The bushes still look like they needed a trim but at least the path that led out was in good shape.
