Chapter 66: 66. An Old Garden
There was soil in blocks sectioned out on each side. The soil looked cracked and all dried up. There were leaves everywhere but as soon as she touched them, they scattered and blew away as dust.
All the plants looked all shriveled and dried up. Even if it was a lack of care, the plants shouldn't be in such a terrible state. She expected weeds to overrun the entire place, not dried branches and leaves.
However, from the state of the soil, it is obvious nothing can grow on it. She knew immediately that she would have to change it. She brought her hands to her chin, her eyes gleamed in excitement at the thought of what she would have to do.
A few vases laid around but they were in such poor taste too. About three were broken and Mauve wondered if it was as a result of wear or the wind. She squinted and picked up a shard. It was pretty sturdy and thick.
Mauve frowned and took a step forward, there was a statue right in the middle. It was a statue of an angel with a bow and arrows. The only reason she could tell it was an angel was the wings, the angel had the face of a child and the body of one.
She approached it and touched it. It was covered in grime, the once white color was now closer to ash, she wondered if cleaning it would return it to its former glory.
Around the statue were vases that Mauve knew had held beautiful flowers at some point. She could see the petals scattered around. Most of them were unrecognizable and she couldn't check as they crushed between the weight of her fingers.
She removed her hands from the statue and took a step forward to further examine the rooftop garden when she heard a loud bang on the door. She jerked at the interruption and closed her eyes. It has been mere minutes.
