Chapter 22 - 22 15 Cave Dweller Disturbance_2

?22: Chapter 15 Cave Dweller Disturbance_2 22: Chapter 15 Cave Dweller Disturbance_2 The four of them were in a long, narrow corridor, with several entrances scattered unevenly on both sides, connecting in all directions and the opening where the Cave Dwellers were about to arrive was the largest one.

“Now it’s my turn.” Lina, who was enjoying normal brightness for the first time since entering the cave, looked around ecstatically.

She walked to the entrance, knelt on one knee, a book of magic automatically opening and floating above her left hand.

Her right hand lightly tapped the ground at the entrance as she recited in a low voice, “In the name of the earth, in the name of my lord, I hereby summon the spirit of the earth element, Divine Spell, Terrain Alteration, Stone Creation.”

As Lina recited, the hard rock on the ground started to ripple like water, with a massive rock slowly rising from the ground, as though emerging from water.

The thick stone grew upward, only stopping when it touched the cave ceiling.

“Perfect.” Catherine approvingly looked at the rock that had sealed half of the spacious cave entrance and gave a thumbs-up, then she walked to the half that remained open, planted her sword in front of her, and waited silently for the arrival of the Cave Dwellers.

“Pannis, is it really impossible to seal the entire entrance?” Lina, hoping to double-check, insisted, “The stones I created can last six hours before disappearing, which should be enough for us to escape, shouldn’t it?”

“No.” Pannis replied without hesitation, “The Cave Dwellers have locked onto our scent, they’ll pursue us no matter where we go, we cannot lose them in the cave.

We must frighten them enough so they’ll never dare to chase us again.”

“Then we fight.” Lina, speaking like a normal person for once today, said with a sorrowful expression, “I’m really unwilling to fight humanoid creatures, even if they are magical creatures.

Sigh, may the merciful lord forgive my sins.”

Hearing Lina’s mutterings and seeing the strategic arrangement that was vastly different from their previous battle on the mushroom, Pannis nodded in comprehension, “You should be able to hear them now.

They’re almost here.”

“I hear them.” Standing straight on the front line, Catherine’s face was calm, “There are a lot of them, but I only hear footsteps, no voices.

So it’s true humans can’t hear the sounds Cave Dwellers use to communicate with each other?

Then, Mr.

Pannis, the preparation for the other entrances is up to you.”

“Of course.” Pannis had no intention of evading his duty, “As you wish.”

The four of them had encountered a rather powerful tribe of Demonic Cavemen in the lower cave, led by a Beginner Gold Rank leader, and a Beginner Gold Rank Wizard.

In the past, they could roam freely in most areas of the lower cave, especially during the unrest period when all Cave Dwellers’ strengths were increased.

Hardly any magical creatures wanted to provoke them, and they were smart enough to avoid top-tier magical creatures.

Therefore, the tribe hadn’t encountered any challengers in over a decade, until they met Nellie’s adventure team.

The battle frustrated the tribal leader from the very beginning.

When his army of thousands nearly caught up with five prey, he found that the familiar terrain had changed: the mouth of the exit had mysterously shrunk.

An exit that used to allow five or six members of the tribe to rush through momentarily would now only allow three.

Moreover, there was a single prey blocking the entrance, severing the heads of every tribal member who tried to rush through.

This prey seemed to be even stronger than him.

While the leader was slightly puzzled, he still commanded his tribe to continue charging, believing in his limited wisdom that his thousands could crush the opponent by sheer numbers.

Unfortunately, this line of thinking didn’t last long, it only endured until he heard the sound of a crystal vial shattering in the crowd.

An orange crystal vial flew over Catherine’s head and exploded among the Cave Dwellers, igniting a blazing inferno with the vial at the center, and burning relentlessly for thirty seconds before abruptly extinguishing.

The exploding vial was precisely targeted.

The extent of the fire just managed to reach a meter in front of Catherine but didn’t harm her.

As soon as the fire subsided, a white crystal vial exploded at the same location, a chilling frost enveloping the space that had just been reheated by the flames.

The instant the frost dissipated, another inferno ignited.

The repeated alternation of fire and ice torture made the Cave Dwellers’ suffering unbearable.

The tribal leader was horrified to see that his tribe members, previously struggling to make progress while carrying their dead, were now painfully collapsing in the cycle of heat and cold.

Even two Silver Rank warriors unexpectedly couldn’t withstand the alternate onslaught of extreme hot and cold, their skin and muscles were chapping and breaking apart.

“Wizard, where’s the wizard, kill that prey.” The leader silently called out to his wizard, who obediently waved his magic staff.

A massive fireball formed at the end of his staff, traveled over the heads of the tribe, and flew toward the prey.

However, the prey didn’t even attempt to dodge, only raising the Falcon Shield sparkling with the glow of aggression energy.

The fireball, containing the power of the Gold Rank, exploded on the shield, merely pushing the prey half a step back and leaving a charred mark on the shield.

The exploding fireball collateral damage affected their own tribe, incurring accidental casualties from the explosion’s aftermath.

“Retreat, everyone retreat!” Seeing his tribe members wailing in the hell of fire and ice, the leader urgently commanded, hoping his people could fall back to regroup before launching another attack.

But then.

“Holy Word Technique, Barrier.” A soft cry interrupted the leader’s hopes.

He couldn’t see it, but a phantom wall flashing with holy light appeared on the outer edge of the sea of fire, blocking off the tribe’s escape route.

Although he couldn’t see, the leader could sense what happened.

With no other choice, the leader jumped up, stepping on the heads of his crowded tribe members, rushed to the sacred barrier and demolished it with three quick swings of his stone axe carrying the power of the Gold Rank.

The moment the barrier vanished, the leader didn’t feel any joy of victory, only an intense chill rising from the bottom of his heart.

In his senses, the unmoving prey at the entrance finally made her move.

“Holy Word Technique, Stone Skin.” “Magic, Weapon Enhancement.”

Lina and Vivian’s chantings chorused simultaneously, the glow of both spells enveloping Catherine.

Catherine’s eyes were locked onto the leader hovering mid-air, an icy smile gracing her lips.

The knight sword swung into a dangerous arc, ignoring the attacks from the Cave Dwellers around her.

She bravely initiated a Charge of Fearlessness against the airborne leader.

The edge of the sword flashed brilliantly.

The two figures in the air separated as soon as they touched, with Catherine swiftly returning to her original spot to block the Cave Dwellers trying to break through.

The Cave Dweller leader, his chest spouting black blood, fell directly into the crowd of his tribe members.

Seeming to have received some command, the Cave Dwellers who were charging stopped suddenly.

They stood perplexed for a moment, and then withdrew like a receding tide, leaving behind hundreds of mutilated corpses.

Following the retreat of the Cave Dwellers, in the depths of another tunnel, two people wrapped in cloaks shook their heads regretfully and silently disappeared into the darkness.
