Chapter 25 - 25 17 Goal_2
?25: Chapter 17 Goal_2 25: Chapter 17 Goal_2 Lina sighed lightly with helplessness, walked over to Vivian, gently patted her on the shoulder, and slightly raised her voice: “Vivian, Vivian, wake up.”
Vivian was roused from her deep thoughts, looked up at Lina with a puzzled expression, and suddenly jumped aside like she had seen a ghost, pointing at Lina and shouted: “Hey, you, how did you…forget it, I should be used to it by now, what is it this time?”
“The arrogance of a noble, Anna.” Lina introduced herself, interlocking her hands in front of her, slightly leaning her upper body forward: “My sister asked me to get you, we’re preparing to discuss our next move.
What are you thinking about?
You’ve been immersed in it already for an hour.”
“A major discovery, a super major discovery.” Vivian’s eyes lit up when she heard Lina’s question, her face brimming with excitement.
She didn’t care about Lina’s protest, grasped her hand and ran to sit next to Catherine.
The excitement made her voice tremble: “My name is going to be written in the history books, Catherine.
My dream is coming true.
Our adventure team is going to become famous.
Can you imagine?
Once my ideas are validated, gold coins will be so abundant for us they’ll become burdensome.”
Catherine’s eyes also began to glow at the mention of gold coins: “What exactly did you discover?
Is it related to those spores?”
“Exactly, those spores.” Vivian glanced at Rachel, and seeing that she was in a deep sleep, she whispered: “I’ll need to head back to my lab to examine the details, but from what we can see now, those spores can be used to improve three types of potion.”
“Cough cough.” Pannis coughed lightly and stood up: “I’m going to check the nodes of the detection array.”
“No need.” Vivian snatched Pannis’ skirt: “We’re still a team right now, you don’t have to avoid.”
Pannis scanned Vivian, Lina and Catherine with a strange look, found each girl wearing a small, cryptic smile.
He glanced at Vivian’s hand still gripping his skirt and, finally, looked upwards towards the cave ceiling and sat down with resignation.
Catherine secretly sent Vivian a commendatory look.
Vivian grinned, pleased, before lowering her voice to continue: “You guys could never guess which three potions: Vitality Recovery Potion, Meditation Potion, and Deep Sleep Potion.”
“Ah.” For the first time that night, Lina gasped in shock, covering her mouth: “The three most important for spellcasters?”
“Exactly.” Vivian replied, full of mystery: “If everything goes smoothly, with the properties of the spores, I can increase the mana recovery speed of the Vitality Recovery Potion by fifty percent.
I can also reduce the fatigue on muscles caused by Meditation Potion after entering meditation state by twenty percent, shortening the meditation time by eighteen seconds while maintaining the same amount of mana recovery.
As for the Deep Sleep Potion, I can reduce the sleep time from thirty minutes to just twenty-five minutes – a full five-minute reduction.”
“Has it been two hundred and fifty years now?” Catherine suddenly asked.
“Yes, the formula for the Vitality Recovery Potion hasn’t been improved for two hundred and fifty years, the Meditation Potion for two hundred and seventy years, and the Deep Sleep Potion hasn’t changed since it was invented two hundred and seventy-seven years ago.” Vivian’s body remained steady, but her lips trembled with excitement: “The name Vivian will be remembered by every spellcaster.
I won’t have to fear being unknown anymore…” Toward the end, she seemed to recall something, and her eyes began to well up.
“You’ll succeed.” Catherine gently patted Vivian’s head: “We all believe in you.
You’ll definitely succeed.”
“But there’s a problem,” Pannis interjected, his expression lacking the others’ enthusiasm: “Those spores only remain active for five minutes.”
“Doesn’t matter.” Vivian energetically waved her hand to emphasize: “What we need are the deactivated spores.
The ones that have just been expelled are actually unusable.
If those were used, I suspect they would cause an explosion.”
“But, since these spores are so useful, why hasn’t anyone else discovered them?” Pannis seemed like a wet blanket, but he actually raised every possible question he could think of: “Could there be other issues?
Be careful not to rejoice prematurely.”
“I know you mean well, but it seems like you’re underestimating Vivian.” Catherine’s expression was subtle, hinting at her anticipation for the unfolding drama.
“I just analyzed it with the Medicine Analyzer, and it matched with what I perceived.
I’m almost certain that I will succeed.
As for why others haven’t found it?” On Vivian’s young face appeared a derisive smile that seemed to view everyone else from the summit: “I am one of the thirteen owners of the individual labs in the highest Starshine Tower of the Alchemist Guild, the only researcher in the Starshine Tower who was invited in with a Gold Rank, one of the seven council members of the Alchemy Achievement Council.
What I can find, others can not necessarily discover.”
Hearing this long list of titles, Pannis was speechless.
He could only cough and change the topic: “In that case, can we call off the mission?
After all, the benefits from this research far outweigh this task.”
“Of course not.” Vivian looked at Pannis as if she were looking at a fool: “Without years of accumulation, how could one possibly succeed in potion improvement?
And without finishing the task, where will the funds come from for my research?
I do not want to argue with investors over thousands of gold coins every day like those old folks.
Also, I can’t only rely on this prospect.
What if it fails?
I haven’t prided myself to the point of losing rationality and believing in guaranteed success.
Besides, didn’t we say that we would discuss the next step?
I still have experiments to do later, don’t waste any more time, let’s start.”
“Fine.” Pannis had no energy to argue about who was wasting time.
He moved his finger a bit on the map: “Here is where we entered, this is the Spore Forest, this is where we killed five demonized Hyenas, this is where we just encountered this group of demonized bats, and following this route will lead to their nest.
We instead went the other way.
This passage is where we fought with the Cave Dwellers.
After the fight, we took the bottom branch here.”
“I see, this cave is where we are resting.” Catherine was engrossed in studying the map.
“Since it’s clear now, I want to share my thoughts.
What you are looking for is a laboratory.
Whether it is an alchemy laboratory, an engineering laboratory or a magic laboratory, the most important thing is energy.
A laboratory of a certain size, I’m afraid, can’t just rely on crystals to sustain consumption.
It must have energy sources that can be utilized at any time without causing waste.
The Mage Towers in the Kingdom of Mages are built this way, all established at special locations to collect scattered energy for daily consumption.”
“Indeed.” Vivian affirmed: “Including the Starshine Tower, all Mage Towers operate this way.”
“In this lower cave, there are only three stable sources of energy: Cold Energy, Fire Energy, and Demonized Energy.
Among them, Demonized Energy can be ignored, so we are left only with Cold and Fire.”
“I understand.” Catherine pointed at a location on the map: “Before we set off, you said that in the lower caves, some places have amazingly high temperatures while others extremely low.
Those should be the convergence points of Cold and Fire energy, right?
Like here.
So, we just have to inspect one by one?”
“Yes, I’ve found thirteen places with abnormal temperatures.
Going through one by one, it would take at most two months to explore all thirteen sites.
If we don’t find our target at these thirteen locations, we’ll need to explore new areas.
In that case, I can’t promise we will finish the task within the deadline.”
“No problem, having a target is good enough.” Catherine gave the final instruction for tonight: “Let’s rest early today.
Tomorrow won’t be easy.”
“What about her?” Pannis pointed at the sleeping Rachel.
“We’ll ask her opinion tomorrow.” Catherine had made up her mind.
“You want to bring her along?” Pannis looked at Catherine in surprise: “Are you sure?”
“Of course.” Catherine patted her chainmail: “I am a knight.”
