Chapter 914 914: Trusting A Stranger
[ At Heavenly Star Enterprise…]
Christian had been waiting for the HR management to comply with his request when suddenly Grandpa Lu entered his office, pulling Myrene with him. Christian looked at them in puzzlement.
"Gramps, what are you doing here? And why are you with her?" He shifted his gaze back and forth between Grandpa Lu and Myrene.
A deep crease formed on Grandpa Lu's forehead, his mouth thinning with displeasure. This was the first time Christian saw the disappointment in his great-grandfather's eyes. He was upset.
'What did I do to upset him?' Christian marveled at that thought.
"How dare you do this to me, Tian? Why did you try to transfer Myrene whom I chose to be your secretary? Are you questioning my judgment now, grandson?" Grandpa Lu sounded very upset. But deep inside, he was just pretending to be mad. He had to put an act so that Christian would change his mind.
"Did you tell him?" Christian questioned Myrene in his annoyed voice. He thought Myrene was the one who told Grandpa Lu about her transfer.
"No, sir. I didn't tell anyone," Myrene immediately denied it, defending herself. But she was glad that the old man came to support her. Grandpa Lu was against Christian's decision.
"We already talked about this. I thought you understand that my decision is firm. I won't allow you to change a secretary unless Myrene will commit a major mistake!" Grandpa Lu declared to them.
"Okay, Gramps, just calm down," Christian said, afraid that Grandpa Lu's health would be affected if he got too emotional over things. He didn't want to argue with his great-grandpa.
"Just take back what you've requested from the HR management, now!" Grandpa Lu demanded.
Heaving a sigh of defeat, Christian picked up the telephone and dialed the number of the HR department.
"I am canceling the request of Transfer for the staff, Miss Myrene Keller. She will stay as my secretary." Christian uttered with finality. After a few seconds, he ended the call.
"Gramps, I did it. Are you happy now? Please don't get mad anymore." Christian wanted to appease his angry gramps.
"No. I'm not yet satisfied! Bring her desk inside your office. Don't let her sit outside your office. She is your secretary. She had to be with you most of the time!" Grandpa Lu made another demand.
"Alright. She will transfer here today," Christian yielded to the old man's request right away.
Myrene couldn't believe how much influence Grandpa Lu had for the CEO to listen to him obediently. Some grandsons would stubbornly refuse an old man's ridiculous request. The old man was clearly forcing this young man to make her his secretary.
She didn't know why Grandpa Lu was doing this for her. She didn't have a close encounter with him. But for some unknown reason, the old man was siding with her, rather than his great-grandson. She felt grateful for that.
Grandpa Lu finally smiled when Christian fulfilled all his requests. "Don't bully, Myrene. She has nothing to do with my decision," he reminded his great-grandson, making sure that he would not be mad at Myrene.
Christian could only nod his head. Then Grandpa Lu also turned to the tiger who was behaving on the side. "Blue, you too! Don't scare Myrene. Try to befriend her, okay?"
Blue just glanced at Grandpa Lu then tilted his head, pretending he didn't hear him. He couldn't promise that.
Seeing the tiger's reaction, Grandpa Lu stepped closer to Blue. He patted his head and said, "I will count on you, Blue. I know you are a good and well-behaved tiger."
Blue finally moved his head up and down as he agreed to Grandpa Lu. Myrene could only watch the old man in amusement. She wished she also had a grandpa like him. He was so cool and amazing. She made a mental note to thank the old man later.
After exchanging a few words with his great grandson, Grandpa Lu bade his farewell. Myrene decided to send him off. She wanted to thank him for backing her up. If not for him, she should have been transferred to another department.
Her mother was relying on her, telling her to befriend the CEO of the Heavenly Star Enterprise and get close to him. She was doing this all for the sake of her mother.
While they were walking the hallway, Myrene grabbed the opportunity to thank Grandpa Lu.
"Sir, thank you for helping me out there."
"No need to mention it," Grandpa Lu chuckled, waving his hand.
"But why did you do that, sir? Why do you want me to be your great grandson's secretary? I guess there are others who are more capable than me. This is my first job and I have no experience yet. But you chose me." Myrene bombarded him with so many questions.
"Because I saw the way you looked at my great grandson the moment you entered that conference hall." Grandpa Lu answered her truthfully.
Myrene blinked in confusion. 'The way I looked at him… ?" Myrene tried to scan her memory of what was her reaction upon seeing Christian for the first time. She wondered what kind of expression she made while glancing at him. But unfortunately, she couldn't remember.
All she could recall was that she couldn't take her eyes off him as soon as her emerald eyes met his crystal clear blue eyes. She felt like there was a magnet pulling their gaze to each other.
Subconsciously, her cheeks heated up, blushing. "W-Why sir? How did I look at that time?" she asked him with intrigue.
"Hmm, how do I describe it?" Grandpa Lu rubbed his chin, thinking. It did not take long before a crisp laugh was heard. Grandpa Lu let out another chuckle. "I saw sparks in your eyes!" Grandpa Lu stated with a cheerful tone. Then he glanced at her with a teasing smile.
Myrene could only bite her lower lip, feeling a little bit embarrassed. She didn't mean to look silly in front of Grandpa Lu and Christian. She couldn't help it. Christian was too handsome to ignore. His mesmerizing blue eyes captured her attention in just one glance.
She was still in a daze when Grandpa Lu stopped walking to face her. The old man tapped her shoulder and said, "Myrene, can I trust you?"
Myrene was taken aback for a moment. She didn't know what to reply. Honestly, she had a motive for applying for the position as Christian's secretary. But her heart was suddenly filled with guilt. She couldn't answer him right away.
But Grandpa Lu just smiled at her tenderly. There was no hint of suspicion in his eyes. "I know, it's not appropriate to ask you this. But can I ask you a favor, Myrene?"
Myrene could only nod her head absentmindedly. She couldn't refuse this generous and sweet old man in front of her. "What is it, sir?"
"Can you befriend my great-grandson? Help him to interact and mingle with other people. Don't let him imprison himself in those four corners of his office. Bring him out and join with the other employee," Grandpa Lu said his utmost request.
This time Myrene was able to agree right away. It was her intention to get close to Christian anyway so why not fulfill the old man's request. "I will do that, sir."
Grandpa Lu tapped her shoulder once again, giving her a grateful smile. "I will count on you. My great grandson already isolated himself from other people. He built a wall, stopping others from reaching him. I want you to help me destroy that wall, Myrene." Grandpa Lu was putting his trust in this woman.
"Okay, Sir. Leave that to me. I will do my best to break that wall!" Myrene said with so much conviction.
Grandpa Lu felt so happy with her enthusiasm. He would root for her. But the question was… Will he not regret it in the end, letting this woman get involved with his great-grandson? Only time could decide on that.
Meanwhile, Christian was now sitting on his executive chair, staring blankly at the closed door. He still couldn't believe that his great-grandpa got angry with him because of that small thing. For the first time, he got jealous. He felt like Myrene was taking his gramp's attention away from him.
He couldn't accept why his great grandpa was siding on this woman who they had just met. He still had a bad feeling about it. He felt like Myrene would keep creating trouble for him.
"Sigh. Blue…" He petted Blue's head, sighing deeply.
The tiger just stood up and started licking his hand. This was one way of Blue comforting his master. 'Don't worry, Master. I will always be by your side. You don't have to feel uneasy in front of this woman. I will protect you from anyone.'
As if Christian read Blue's mind, he hugged Blue, squeezing his fluffy body in his arms.
