Chapter 267
Chapter 267
Ezra was once again imprisoned at the very top of the spire of Westmore Castle.
The seven-story experimental tower at the train station had collapsed last time, and it seemed the laboratory had now been relocated to a different spire within the castle.
The only window in the laboratory was fitted with bars specially designed for him. Sitting by it, Ezra gazed down at the cityscape of Westmore.
From his vantage point, he could see the central plaza of Westmore, where the entire city’s population had gathered.
"This doesn’t bode well."
Lifting his shackled hands, he bit down on a cigar and furrowed his brow, observing the square intently.
At that moment, the gates of Westmore Castle swung open, and someone was dragged out. A woman, dressed in extravagant attire, stepped onto the platform.
Even from a distance, she was unmistakable. With her rare deep pink hair and an aura that radiated even from afar, there was no need for confirmation—it was Sinclair.
When the crowd began pelting Cherry with stones, Ezra tossed his cigar to the floor.
Grinding the smoldering cigar under his boot, he swept his gaze around the room. The laboratory door was securely locked.
After a brief moment of deliberation, he yanked the emergency bell cord. Soon after, a researcher arrived, having heard the signal.
"Tell the Duke of Lancaster... I’ll give him what he wants."
It was a deal that put him at a disadvantage, but there was no other choice.
Ezra approached the window once again and peered outside. Cherry was still standing there, enduring the jeers and stones hurled at her by the mob.
"The pampered lady is now getting stoned in public... Sinclair’s chairman would be wailing."
Who was he to play savior while being locked up himself? But when it came to the Duke of Lancaster, Ezra still held a strong bargaining chip.
